Took a hike on Tuesday, February 18th to check on the progress of the ice formations at Big Lyons and Little Lyons Falls. I had been watching the icicles forming and growing larger and larger all winter and knew it could be special this day. And it was awesome....
Started the hike at the Lyons Falls trailhead near the Pleasant Hill Dam parking area. Traveled the Lyons Falls Trail to Little Lyons Falls, then continued to Big Lyons Falls--where the ice fall was the largest I had seen in many, many years. After leaving Big Lyons Falls, I took a side trip to Tipping Rock Falls. The trip was worth the effort. I then returned to Lyons Falls Trail where I continued along the west side of the Clearfork River to the Covered Bridge. After taking some photos at the bridge, I crossed to the east side of the river and walked the Pleasant Hill Dam Trail back to my car.
Throughout the hike, I stopped to take pictures of the incredible winter beauty that I encountered throughout the hike. Mohican in the winter is amazing. And this winter has been a spectacular one...
